FSSAI License for Setting up Food Business

Do you want to Manufacture, process, package, store, transport, distribute, import, sale the food article or  provide catering services by setting  the shop, stall, hotel, restaurant, airline meal catering services and food canteens or simply by setting up the place where the article of the food is sold, manufactured, stored for sale in India?

All you need is the simple compliance by obtaining a license from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) for ensuring safely food consumption for humans and thereby you can run your food business in a legal manner. 

How to obtain the food license in India?

Depending upon the Business and turnover of Food Business Operators (FBO) there are 3 types of licenses:

A. Basic registration within 2-3  working days:

For a business with turnover up to 12 lakh annually

• ‘Form A’ to be filled with the mobile no and identity proof details of FBO on a fee of Rs. 100 as prescribed by the Authority.

B. State license within 30-60 working days:

For a business with turnover more than 12 lakh but up to 20 crores annually. 

• Form ‘B’ with the documents provided by the authority under the website

C. Central license within 20-25 working days:

For a business with turnover more than 20 crores annually

• Form ‘B’ with Self-declaration about their turnover or account statement for a fee of Rs. 7500 as prescribed by the Authority

What will be the Validity of license?

The license granted shall be valid for a period of 1 to 5 years as chosen by the FBO from the date of registration.

What are the rules regarding Renewal of License?

The application for renewal of a license shall be made not later than 30 days prior to the expiry date.

Mode of payment

All fees to be paid through demand draft or online mode of payment.

FSSAI License for Online Channels

Now, by the February 2017, FSSAI mandated for obtaining FSSAI license from Central licensing authority for the E-commerce food operators by entering into the agreement with the sellers/ manufacturers/ restaurants that they are complying with the rules and regulations of FSSAI Act.
