If you are a food
business operator conducting any kind of business in India then you are
automatically covered under the requirement of FSSAI
License. FSSAI License
is issued by the Food Safety and
Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). You are required to submit an application
along with FSSAI License documents and FSSAI
License fee prescribed by the department.
Who
is considered as a Food Business Operator?
All the businessmen
who are involved in food business irrespective of the nature of work they are
doing are considered as Food Business Operator (FBO). It can either be a
natural or a legal person and are required to ensure that all the rules and
requirements relevant to their food business are met with.
What
are the Categories of FSSAI License?
Depending upon the
expected annual turnover of a food business hey can determine in which category
they are required to apply for FSSAI License. FSSAI License is of three types
including Basic, State and Central FSSAI License. Following is a brief
description of different types of FSSAI License:
- Basic FSSAI License Registration
If
your annual turnover is not expected to exceed 12 Lakh Rupees then you are
required to apply for Basic FSSAI License.
- State FSSAI License Registration
If
your annual turnover is more than 12 Lakh Rupees but is not expected to exceed
20 Crore Rupees then you are required to apply for State FSSAI License. This
requirement is the same for manufacturing
as well as for trading units.
- Central FSSAI License Registration
If
you are involved in manufacturing or trading of food products and your annual
turnover exceeding 20 Crore Rupees then
you are required to apply for FSSAI Central
License. There are some specified limits for businesses involved in
food storage that are required to apply for Central FSSAI License. Anyone
involved in Import/Export of food products is
also required to apply for Central FSSAI License.
